Learn how to cook Turnip Curry Recipe (Shalgam Ki Sabzi)
A winter vegetable simply cooked in onion tomato based gravy. It is easy to cook, healthy dish and taste delicious with potatoes in a semi dry curry. This vegetable is light to digest and a good source of vitamin C and B, Iron and Calcium. You can add green peas to the dish as well. - 500 gms Turnip, peeled and cubed
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, pureed
- 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
- 1 green chili
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/4 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- 1/2 red chili powder
- 1/2 garam masala
- Asafoetida- A pinch
- Salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 tablespoon oil
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
How to make Turnip (Shalgam) Curry Recipe
Step 1: Remove the top and bottom of turnips. Peel the turnips and potatoes, wash and cut them into dices.
Step 2: Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and asafoetida. When they start to crackle, add onions and ginger garlic paste. Saute till the raw smell goes away.
Step 3: Add tomato puree and stir well.
Step 4: Then, add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder and salt. Mix well and stir till the masalas get cooked.
Step 5: Add potatoes and shalgam. Saute for 2-3 minutes. Sprinkle garam masala, sugar and mix well.
Step 5: Pour 2 cups of water, cover the lid and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Once the pressure is released, let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes.
Step 6: Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
