Sem Aloo Ki Sabzi | Stir Fry Flat Broad Beans with Potatoes
This is very simple, delicious and healthy recipe. Sem Phalli is also known as Flat Beans. These beans have hard strings on the sides which needs to be removed before chopping. They have seeds inside which are soft and sweet. Sem Phalli cooked with potato in onion tomato gravy with basic spice powders. These beans have high fiber content and unique taste. - Sem/ Flat Broad Beans- 250 gms
- 2 medium sized potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
- 1 tomato, pureed
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- Asafoetida- A pinch
- 1/2 teaspoon garam powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoon oil
Method to make Sem Aloo Ki Sabzi Recipe
Step 1: Wash the Sem (Beans), remove the strings from both the sides and then chop them into medium pieces. Peel and chop the potatoes as well.
Step 2: Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and asafoetida. Once they start to crackle, add onions and ginger garlic paste.
Step 3: Add potatoes and stir fry them for a minute. Then add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder and salt and mix well.
Step 4: Add tomato puree, garam masala and saute well. Then, add chopped Sem Beans to the masala gravy and mix. Cover and cook till the vegetable is cooked well.
Step 5: Turn off the flame, transfer it into a bowl and serve hot with rotis.
